Chances and Chandler Parsons (Connor Huchton, Hardwood Paroxysm)
Chandler Parsons has started the last four games for the Houston Rockets. Some injuries and underperforming from other forwards provided Parsons with an opportunity for more minutes, and he hasn’t disappointed.
Parsons was drafted in the second round, 38th overall. He had value at that spot because of his ability to rebound and shoot the three. You don’t see many second round picks make a big impact on a team, especially in their rookie seasons.
However, Parsons has not only been rebounding and shooting the three (he’s actually not shooting the three very well so far), but he’s dunking on Blake Griffin and scoring 20 points.
Hardwood Paroxysm, an ESPN-affiliate blog, had this to say about Parsons.

“Eleven games into his career, Chandler Parsons has already started four times (all coming in the last four games). He’s quickly become the best option at small forward for the Rockets, and outperformed expectations in almost every facet of his game (except from the three-point line, where he’s started slowly). What had Danny and others so excited about Parsons’ game — the hustle, the versatility, and the athleticism — has revealed itself in conjunction with a confident demeanor. Quite simply, Parsons’s game fits the Rockets’ offense: he’s a shooting threat, he moves well away from the ball, and he rebounds well for his position. In many ways, Parsons has been a better version of Budinger, and the player Budinger was supposed to be this season for a Rockets’ team that relies on spacing and well-rounded players.”

Parsons probably won’t be able to sustain this type of success throughout his rookie season, but he’s proven his value, and he will only improve over the course of his NBA career.
